Driscol Children’s Hospital (W5DCH) Corpus Christi SET

Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi is holding a Simulated W5DCH EmComm Team at Driscol Children's HospitalEmergency Test this Saturday October 27, 2007 and inviting Rio Grande Valley Hams to participate by checking in to a Rio Grande Valley Two-meter net on the IRLP Reflector 9451.  The Hospital communications team will be calling for help via the RGV area IRLP nodes 3600 (AK52/Harlingen,TX 443.6000-PL/114.8) and IRLP node 3707 (K5D6/La Feria, TX 146.9600/No Tone) and giving everyone instructions to move to IRLP Reflector 9451. This will be net controlled by W5DCH-Driscoll Children’s Hospital Radio Room in CCTX. Invitations for network check in will begin sometime around 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. and run for the entire SET.

 

Says Linda Shell, W5LSS “We would really appreciate Local hams froW5DCH Radio Room at Hospitalm the RGV checking in to our exercise on two meters or HF and letting us know they are in place and available to assist if needed. Traffic will be provided for all that participate and adlib situations are welcomed at on the RGV Operator’s end. This exercise is an effort to give ham radio operators the opportunity for Amateur Radio Emergency Service training along with testing of our all mode DCH EOC Radio Room equipment. Among other goals, the SET is poised to test the Hospital’s emergency Communication capability and resources, which include mutual assistance from adjacent area ham radio operators up and down the Texas Gulf Coast. We will also be working with 14 Boy Scouts on their Emergency Service Badges.

 

Other agency’s participating are: EOC Radio Room Operators in Corpus Christi, Victoria, Refugio, Kingsville DCH ER and Transportation Rio Grande Valley RACES Rio Grande Valley ARES Nueces County ARES United States Coast Guard (USCG Will be making a sea rescue and transporting to DCH) DCH Volunteer Disaster Services Team and EOC Radio Room DCH Emergency Room and Transport Department Troop 289 - Gulf Breeze District, Boy Scouts of America

Landfall at 06:1900 Local

Latitude    28 21”31.96N

Longitude   96   47”47.79W

Matagorda Island at Seadrift, TX

 

Path through Victoria, Texas

 

Devastation to Tivoli, Seadrift, Victoria, Refugio, Port Lavaca,

06:1900 Hurricane Zelda has made landfall and the eye proceeds on a NE course over Victoria, Texas. Devastation is a 30 mile radius extending East to Refugio, West to Port Lavaca. Corpus Christi, Texas has heavy rain with some area flooding but infrastructure is still in place.  In anticipation of Zelta the City of Corpus Christi has been evacuated along with Refugio, Victoria and all low lying areas.

The EOC’s of the evacuated areas have deployed their incident command centers, EOC Radio Room personnel are in place and monitoring all HF, VHF and UHF frequencies. All 800Mhz, 900Mhz and local utilities in the strike zone are no longer in service.
