TX St Guard Forming RGV Unit - Wants Hams To Serve

September 26th, 2007 Posted in M.A.R.S., RACES, SPARCS

WANT TO SERVE YOUR STATE? VOLUNTEER FOR DISASTER WHERE IT REALLY MATTERS UP ON THE “FRONT LINES”!  NOT TO WORRY. YOU CAN’T GO TO IRAG OR AFGHANISTAN. YOU CAN’T EVEN BE SENT OUT OF TEXAS.

Texas State Guard Medical RangersRio Grande Valley Texas, September 27, 2007. -  It didn’t take long for Texas State Guard and the TSG Medical Rangers to realize that the Amateur Radio Service created by the F.C.C.  in the 1920’s fit hand-in-glove with military grade professionals who like to volunteer their time for disaster relief in a regimental fashion. Does the organization sound familiar? It should. The Texas State Guard goes back to the days of Sam Houston and the very birth of Texas and Texans from all over. Now, at long last a new Texas Med Rangers Medical Unit has been formed in the Rio Grande Valley, and “Uncle Sam Houston” is looking for a few good men and women Ham Operators to jump on aboard.

According to Captain Sundin, “The TXSG is a volunteer force of Texans helping Texans.  We’re a part of the Military Forces of the State of Texas. As you’re familiar, we wear uniforms and are assigned rank.  While we often train and work alongside the TX Army National Guard, there are some important differences. The State Guard cannot be federalized - we cannot be sent to Iraq, Afghanistan, or even outside the State of Texas.  We’re mobilized only in case of manmade or natural disaster. The Medical Reserve Brigade doesn’t carry arms as part of our uniform.  If any of the amateurs of the RGV have questions regarding the TXSG Medical Brigade, I urge them to contact you or CPT Joel Vera and the Medical Rangers Web site YOU CAN VISIT HERE“.
